  二、主要研究工作
  1. 以兰科植物为主要对象, 开展植物分类与系统学、传粉生物学等研究工作
  兰科是被子植物最大的科之一,占被子植物种类的8-10%,约750属、28000种,与菌根菌、传粉者等存在着协同进化,是进化生物学研究的理想材料,同时也是生物多样性保护的旗舰类群之一。近年来,与合作者一起综合利用各种证据,开展兰科植物一些疑难类群的分类和系统学研究,解决这些类群的分类混乱问题,包括吻兰族、鸟巢兰族、红门兰族、石豆兰族、槽舌兰属、中国羊耳蒜属、中国石斛属、铁皮石斛和霍山石斛复合体等;另外一方面,开展兰科植物欺骗性传粉起源和演化研究,提出了欺骗性传粉起源的新假说。
  2. 生物多样性调查
  目前,对中国及其周边地区和国家进行了大量的野外工作,野外工作长达约80个月,工作区域覆盖了亚洲生物多样性主要热点地区,采集和参与采集了约40000份腊叶标本,拍摄了约20万幅数码照片;并与合作者一起发表了兰科植物1个新族、2个新属、50个新种和约100新名称;合作编写3本专著。

  以第一作者或通讯作者在Nature Communications、Cladistics、Molecular Ecology Resources、Journal of Biogeography、Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution、Genome Biology and Evolution、BMC Plant Biology、Taxon、Botanical Journal of Linnean Society等刊物发表过约80篇论文。
