The Herbarium (PE), Institute of Botany, was established in 1928. Our herbarium contains 2.87 million collections and is among the largest herbaria in the world. Prof. De-Yuan Hong is the honorary Curator, Prof. Hong-Zhi Kong is the Curator and Prof. Xiaohua Jin is the Deputy Curator.
Expedition and Collection. Botanical investigation in 2020 has been mainly in China. More than 22,277 specimens, 8,549 DNA samples, and 96,777 plant photos have been collected in 2020.
Conservation and Digitization of Collections. In total, 23,291 new specimens have been included in PE in 2020. More than 15,309 general specimens and 5,062 fossil specimens were digitized. More than 2,646 specimens have been identified.
Science and technology support. More than 1,310 botanists have pay visitation to PE for scientific researches in 2020. Our staff has provided the service to borrow or loan nearly 20 batches of 1,442 specimens for botanists. Our botanists answer about 226 consultations. More than 212 sheets of botanical illustrations have been repaired by the herbarium artist. PE launched a series of symposium on wild plant conservation with China Wild Plant Conservation Association.
Public Education and Social Service. The PE Herbarium Wechat was officially launched with a total of 35 tweets and 17,700 visitation. The APP of iHerbarium developed by PPBC has also been officially released to facilitate the work of plant classification, investigation and collection.
Chinese Virtual Herbarium (CVH). CVH is an online access to specimens and botanical information in China. There are more than 8.2 million specimens from110 herbaria of China, of which 6.3 million specimens with images.
The Plant Photo Bank of China (PPBC). It is an online open access to photos of living plant. There are about 6.4 million images, representing 498 families, 5,233 genera and 36,650 species. Approximately 1.14 million new photos were included in PPBC this year. The page views amounted to 4.50 million PV.
National Plant Specimen Resource Center of China The portal site of National Plant Specimen Resource Center was launched on May 21st, 2020. The website is an online service system of science and technology resources for society, and also a platform for project management, technical support and information sharing.
